9 month checkup!

Reese's 9 month appointment! It went great and she is as healthy as can be! She weighed in at 19.5 pounds. She moved down on the percentile list to the 75th for both weight and height. She is a tall, chubby girl!
The doc gave her a 99.9 percent diagnosis of Piebaldism. That was a relief for us. Reese was born with a large white birthmark on her shin. She has two more on her upper thigh and elbow. She also has several very small brown birthmarks on various places around her body. We didn't think much of it at first, but her pediatrician referred us to a geneticist just to be safe. She had some testing done on her eyes and an ultrasound done of her kidney's. The doc had 3 different possibilities as to what was causing the marks. 2 were very, very scary disorders and one was a mild one. After the test results came back normal the doctor thinks it is piebaldism (the mild one of the 3). Reese also has a white forelock of hair on the back on her head, which helped confirm the diagnosis. Piebaldism is a genetic disorder that causes the skin discoloration and white forelock. It can also cause deafness, but that usually happens early on and the doc didn't think we needed to be concerned about that. She said that Reese will live a normal, healthy life with just a few different birthmarks and a white patch of hair on her head. YAY!! What a relief. During the testing and until we heard the diagnosis from the doctor, things were pretty stressful for our family. Since the disorder is genetic, Reese's children will possibly have it, but generally it is a very benign disorder.
We are so happy to have happy, healthy children and not to have to worry anymore!!
